St Joseph’s Primary School features one meter deep timber-concrete composite floor beams, and is another example of the innovative capabilities of timber design-build. Originally designed as a concrete structure, Timber Imagineering was able to create significant cost savings by redesigning as a long-span timber structure.
The main structural challenges were the requirements for a 14.5m span while carrying an 80mm screed and significant live loads. The solution? Engaging the screed to create a timber-concrete composition structural system, thus turning a challenge into an opportunity for efficient design. Innovative self-driving screws and hidden connectors helped create the minimalist detailing and meet the Architect’s vision for the open space.
This project was fully designed, detailed, fabricated and erected by Timber Imagineering. The result is an economical and warm learning environment for the students at St Joseph’s Primary School.
